IHRF is committed to providing quality health care to those who otherwise would go untreated. To this end, it sponsors and supports (financially and otherwise) numerous health care programs which are already established but suffering due to lack of resources. In addition, IHRF is also involved with:

Emergency Vans/Ambulances

Through the generosity of donors, IHRF has acquired a medical van/ambulance. This van brings emergency medical care to otherwise home-bound impoverished patients in the rural, Himalayan region near Rishikesh. The patients are treated directly in their homes on an emergency basis, treated in their village through frequent medical camps, or they are transported to the nearest hospital where they can obtain proper care.

Twice each week, the ambulance travels to three different rural, impoverished villages, dispensing medicine, giving check ups, conducting any necessary first aid or emergency treatment, and transporting people to hospitals, if necessary.

We have just acquired another ambulance, sent especially from France which is equipped with all of the latest emergency medical equipment so that it can not only travel to the villages, bringing medicine but so that it can also treat people directly in the ambulance itself and provide life-saving services.

Health Care Camps

IHRF runs and sponsors health care camps, providing free treatment in the areas of ophthalmology, pediatrics, orthopedics, dentistry, piles, diabetes, and any other prevalent need. These camps are usually run on the premises of Parmarth Niketan, Ashram, Rishikesh.

Each year, dozens of camps with doctors coming from USA, UK, Europe, Australia, Delhi and Bombay, treat thousands of local, indigent people in a wide variety of areas.

To give the gift of  health to someone who otherwise could not afford it is a great, divine seva. We invite all doctors, in all fields, to spend some of their holiday time here in the Himalayas offering their expertise and experience in the service of the needy people. Please email to  alka@parmarth.com if you are interested in coming to serve.

May 31 - June 2 2007 - Uttarkashi and Gangotri

In honor of Pujya Swamiji's 55th Jayanti, Dr. Ravi Kasliwal who was then one of the top cardiac surgeons at Escorts Heart Institute New Delhi and has is now at Apollo Hospital New Delhi organized a team of doctors, led by Drs. Raman Raj & Dr. Brajesh K. Mishra, to travel to the towns of Uttarkashi, Dharali and Gangotri to have free heart camps for the local people. On the 31st May they began in Uttarkashi, then were in Gangotri on June 1 and in Dharali on June 2. It was a great gift to the hundreds of local people who were tested, examined and given necessary medicines.

The team from Escorts was joined by a divine, dedicated team of sevaks from Parmarth. Dr. Alka Patel and Dr. Ravi Kasliwal from Parmarth and Nishit, Priyesh, Sonal and Rona Kotecha from London (who were at Parmarth for our yatra to Gangotri and to be with Pujya Swamiji on HIs birthday) traveled up to take part in the medical seva.

Patients were examined, tested -- with both simple as well as elaborate, modern testing equipment -- and given diagnoses as well as required medicine.

Over 200 patients were seen in Dharali and Gangotri and they were treated for a wide variety of ailments, not only for cardiac issues.

Sincere thanks to Shri Radheshyam Goenkaji and Shri Sushil Goenkaji of the Emami Group, Calcutta for sponsoring this entire 3 day medical camp. There is no better way to serve the Guru than to perform divine seva in His name....

September 1-6, 2005: Acupressure Camp

A free Acupressure Camp was held by 6 accomplished acupressure doctors led by Dr. K.C. Jain from Rajasthan. A total of 473 patients were treated for a wide variety of ailments.

January 24 – 30, 2005: Medical Camp at Parmarth Niketan

We had a special medical camp in honor of the anniversary of the passing of Mahatma Gandhi (January 30). Gandhiji's message was selflessness, giving and sacrifice. In honor of this beautiful message, a team of doctors and dentists came from Canada and USA and from Escorts Heart Institute New Delhi to provide selfless service to the needy people of the Himalayan region.

The Canadian Dental team consisted of 5 dentists, 5 dental hygienists, 3 nurses as well as assistants. They came led by Dr. Rajiv Naik and the Kindness in Action group. They saw over 325 patients, filled cavities in 60% of the patients and extracted teeth in 40% of the patients. Everyone received a full and thorough hygienic cleaning.

The Escorts huge team came fully equipped with all of their heart monitoring instruments, and gave screening, testing, diagnosis and treatment to hundreds of patients.

June  - July 2004:
Mansarovar  & Mt. Kailash - Medical Mission

In  July 2004, Pujya Swamiji led a divine yatra of nearly 200  devotees from across the world to the holy land of  Mansarovar and Mt. Kailash. The yatra inaugurated the  Parmarth Mansarovar Ashram and Medical Clinic, the first  ashram to be built in this holy divine land. To find out  more about the divine yatra led by Pujya Swamiji and also the details of the ashram, medical clinic and other projects  undertaken by Pujya Swamiji's India Heritage Research  Foundation, please see www.kailashmansarovar.org  or www.parmarth.com/updates/july2003/index.html

While  a medical clinic was built as along with the ashram and  inaugurated last year, there is only one local doctor and  medicines are scarce. We had left a lot of medicine last  year and plans are underway to equip the clinic with  necessary machines.

This  year, the first team of medical doctors traveled on Medical  Mission from USA to the holy land of Mansarovar to offer  their divine medical seva. A team of 44 yatris, 28 of whom  were doctors, nurses and medical students, led by Dr. Kanti  Bhalani of Tampa, Florida, treated over 1000 patients in  Mansarovar, Kailash, and other small villages of Tibet and  Nepal along  the way. These doctors gave 8 full days of medical  treatment in the holy areas!!

Local  patients were treated for the following ailments: peptic  ulcer diseases, back pain, diabetes, hypertension, women's  issues, pregnancy, pediatric issues, injuries and dental problems. Further, other yatris who had traveled to  Mansarovar with different groups, but were there at the time  of the Medical Mission, were treated for fractures, sprains  and high altitude sickness.

The  doctors carried a total of US $100,000 worth of medicines  and medical supplies to Mansarovar and left behind, with the  local doctor of the Parmarth Mansarovar Ashram and Clinic,  all the medicines which were not used as well as  supplies.
