Bringing Health and Healing to the Body, Mind and Spirit
IHRF is committed to providing health care to those who would otherwise go untreated. To this end, it sponsors and supports numerous health care programs and runs several annual free health care camps in Rishikesh as well as other rural areas ranging from Mansarovar and Kailash to the Himalayan regions.
The free medical camps recently conducted included the following:
- September 2007: A team of IHRF sevaks/devotees who are opthalmologists from London came and organised a free eye testing camp for local people as well as the rishikumars of the gurukul.
- December 2007: A special, free camp was organised by a devoted team of doctors from Australia as well as from various parts of India. The camp included free eye testing and surgeries (more than 100 free surgeries were performed), free ear checking, free dental check-up and treatment and free general medical check-ups, treatment and medicines.
- March 2008: A free prosthetic limbs camp was organised in cooperation with Manav Seva Sannidhi to provide new prosthetic limbs to those who lost them through disease or accident. The camp gave the gift of life and new hope to more than 100 of the poorest of the poor who had lost feet and/or legs. Both adults and children were treated and received new limbs.
- October 2008: A free diagnostic and surgical eye camp took place led by Dr Purnima Roy of Australia. Several hundred patients were treated, and cataract patients from the remote villages of the Himalayas had the latest artificial lenses implanted using the modern Phaco technique.
- August 2009: a team of doctors from the Hinduja Hospital and other Mumbai hospitals came to Parmarth Niketan to offer seva in a wide variety of fields.
