Projects
IHRF believes that children are the future of our planet and that it is our responsibility to help them make that future a bright one. Hence, the foundation runs numerous free programs dedicated to bringing education to the illiterate, training to the unemployable and light to the darkness.
The YES program is dedicated to giving poor and disadvantaged children an alternative to begging and to providing them with the best chance possible to live a life free from destitution.
The YES project runs and sponsors children’s schools, vocational training programs (including sewing, handicrafts, tailoring and fashion designing as well as adult literacy education), and two gurukuls/orphanages. These schools are located in Rishikesh, Swargashram, Rani Pokhri, Lucknow, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa, Uttarkashi and in other areas of the Himalayas and North-East India.
The YES program has just adopted 2 new programs in the sacred Himalayan town of Uttarkashi. Several years ago a tragic earthquake struck the region and a great deal of the infrastructure was destroyed.
We have adopted a large Sanskrit school where nearly 300 young impoverished boys study, learn and live. Approximately, 125 children are residential and the rest come in as day students (they would like to be residential but facilities are insufficient). The school was severely damaged in the earthquake and has not been repaired since. Further, the school as no more funds to continue to run, and is on the verge of complete closure. We have adopted this entire school and will provide all infrastructure support.
There is another school in Uttarkashi town, with approximately 1000 young, poor boys and girls coming every day. The school is short of funds and doesn’t have the resources to establish a computer centre. However, for the young people of the region, a computer centre will be a crucial asset to their future career possibilities and earning potential. Therefore, we area opening a free computer centre for the 1000 students of this school.
Further, we have just opened a new free computer and vocational training centre in Rishikesh for local, poor girls and boys. The centre has computer practical classes, computer theory classes, spoken English, sewing, tailoring, and fashion designing. There is a capacity for approximately 400 students.
